Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him & forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded & completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—& even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—& a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

The movie adaptation of The Martian by Andy Weir is soon the be released, so I thought this was the perfect time to finally read the book. I expected to like it,although science is not really my topic of choice to read about and I heard there was a lot of science in this book. However, even with all the scientific talk, this book blew me away! In fact, the science part of the book made the book feel real to me, like Watney was actually on Mars. I was surprised to find I'm absolutely in love with this book. My attitude may still change, I just finished reading The Martian but I just couldn't put it down! This is an entirely different genre than the other books I've been reading most of this year and I'm sad I didn't pick it up sooner.
The Martian is a survival story that has it all, it is action-packed, original and addicting! Most of the book is written in log entries, which you can compare to a diary. Normally, I don't like books written in that format but I can't think of any negative things to say about The Martian. It was simply amazing! So it is no surprise that I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars! I can't recommend this book enough! Pick it up if you haven't already!
