Life

It's been a couple of weeks, I got ill and had to catch up on work afterwards. Feeling better now and looking forward to Christmas, although I'm the only one in my family who likes it.

Blog and books

I finished A Study in Scarlet, Conversations with Friends and Ethan Frome. I enjoyed all three books. Currently reading Snow Country and listening to the audiobook of The Diary of Anne Frank. I visited the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam this summer, so it's quite impactful to read the book this year as well. Makes me want to visit the house again.

Movies and TV Shows

I started watching The IT Crowd, can't believe I haven't watched it before, as I love British comedy. Any other British series recommendations?
Also watched my first Christmas film this year, The Grinch. Looking forward to watching more Christmas films soon. Not sure where to start, though.

Life

Feeling a bit under the weather and stressed out. Hoping to find some time to read at the end of the month, I miss getting lost in a good novel.

Blog and books

I'm currently reading a Dutch book, De geschiedenis van mijn seksualiteit, for my book club meeting in December. I also started A Study in Scarlet, my first Sherlock Holmes story. I've only read the first chapter so far but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It makes me miss the show Sherlock even more.

Movies and TV Shows

I just finished Only Murders in the Building today and I loved it! It was the perfect cosy show to make me feel a little bit better. Any cosy TV show or film recommendations are welcome! I'm in need of them!

Life

Busy weeks correcting ahead, hope to have some time left to read, though.

Blog and books

I finished Second Place by Rachel Cusk and quite enjoyed it. I think Outline might still be my favourite of her novels I have read so far. Currently reading a Dutch book: De geschiedenis van mijn seksualiteit and I'm hoping to finish it next week but this might just be wishful thinking.
This year I am thinking of reading Conversations with Friends, Jane Eyre and A Study in Scarlet as well. We'll see how that goes.

Also, I love the new ceramic mug I made, I love creating things and can find so much joy doing so.

Movies and TV Shows

I finished The House of the Dragon, Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2. I didn't expect much from the latter two but ended up enjoying those films after all.

Also started watching Only Murders in the Building this week, will be intrigued to see what happens next.

Life

My break is already over, I'm a bit sad I'm still feeling under the weather and next week will be quite busy again.
However, I did manage to go to a Picasso exhibition this week and to visit a bookshop. I enjoy going to museums but don't often find people willing to join me, so instead of missing out on the exhibition, I decided to take myself out on a date to visit the exhibition, have some lunch and visit a bookstore. It was a wonderful day!

Blog and books

I finished Bram Stoker's Dracula this week, I really enjoyed the first half of the book, it's very atmospheric, spooky and mysterious. The second part dragged a bit, and was a bit too long or repetitive in places and the ending was a little anticlimactic. I expected a more spectacular end for some reason. However, I still really enjoyed the  book and would recommend it as a Halloween read! Looking forward to watch the film again, one of these days!

I'm currently reading Second Place by Rachel Cusk and De geschiedenis van mijn seksualiteit (a Dutch novel). The first one is my third Cusk book and the latter is the book I'm reading for a book club I joined at work. I rarely read books in Dutch anymore so it's good to have a purpose to read in Dutch again.

And now a mini book haul: These are the books I got on my trip and a bookmark from the Picasso exhibition to celebrate a perfect day!

Movies and TV Shows

I stared The House of the Dragon, I'm enjoying it and am curious to see how the story will unfold. Haven't watched Rings of Power yet, but hoping to do so this year as well. Have you seen it? Do you recommend it? I have heard mixed things about the show so far.

Also watched The Bear this week. Interesting show for sure, but a lot of chaotic things happen which didn't make the show relaxing to watch for me.

Life

I finally have a break and I'm feeling a bit under the weather. Reading and watching series/films it is then!

Blog and books

I finished Transit by Rachel Cusk yesterday, I enjoyed it but do prefer Outline. Second Place is the next Cusk on my to read list because I'd like to read it before the Meet the author event in November.

I also read Garlic and the Vampire, a very cute and autumnal comic. The story was simple, the art beautiful and full of autumnal and cosy vibes.

I started Bram Stoker's Dracula this weekend and am very excited to finally read this classic. I have watched the film before so I do know the plot but it's still spooky to finally read it. Very much enjoying it!

Movies and TV Shows

I finished Flower of Evil today and it was really good! Also finished Derry Girls, I'm quite sad it's over. I couldn't resist watching Hocus Pocus 1 and 2 to get into a spooky mood.

Life

I also feel a little burned out the last days/week before my break actually starts which is why I spend the weekend creating candles and taking time for myself instead of correcting the assignments right away. It will take me longer now, but I've learned to slow down when I need to. I'm quite adept at procrastinating.

Blog and books

I'm currently reading still Ray Bradbu
ry's The October Country and have started Transit by Rachel Cusk. I'm hoping to read more Cusk soon since I've bought a ticket to see her interview/reading in November. Very excited about it!

Dickens' To Be Read at Dusk was entertaining but not the best short story collection I have read.

Movies and TV Shows

I'm currently watching Flower of Evil to get into a more spooky mood. It's quite good so far! It's a kdrama about a police officer who discovers her husband was the prime suspect in a murder case 18 years ago. He changed his name but the police are still looking for him and now she's in charge of his case.

Life

I'm swamped with work this week, I've been correcting all day just to get more assignments in. I wish I had more time to read and create candles, but hopefully I will get to that in two weeks when I have some time off again. Very much looking forward to it already.

Blog and books

I'm currently reading Ray Bradbury's The October Country and To Be Read at Dusk by Charles Dickens. Two short story collections, which is not somthing I'm great at reading but I've been enjoying the latter on the train. Hoping to finish it early next week. The October Country will take me longer but it's perfect to read a story once in a while.

Movies and TV Shows

I started watching Elite and Abbot Elementary, two very different shows but very entertaining as well.

Life

I have Monday off, so I'm getting myself ready to have a super cosy Sunday evening! The weather was lovely today, so we took my grandmother and his sister out for a day at the coast. It was a fantastic trip, which I hope to do again soon.

Also met up with a friend to play some board games this weekend, Everdell always gives me cosy vibes.

Blog and books

I managed to read a bit more this week and finally finished Siddartha, which was an interesting read. I'm hoping to finish The Secret Lives of Church Ladies today (or tomorrow) so I can start Ray Bradbury's The October Country, which I feel I should read in October.

Do you have any October books planned?

This ceramic mug is a new favourite, I made it this summer and am so happy with the way it turned out!

Movies and TV Shows

Quite curious about The Bear, I've heard some good reviews, so might check it out tonight.

Life

I once more didn't read much this month but I did discover some new cosy games to play on the nintendo switch (it has been years since I last played some video games). Cosy Grove and Disney's Dreamlight Valley are my current favourites.

Blog and books

I only finished The Inseparables at the beginning of the month, which I truly enjoyed. I'm still reading Siddhartha and The Secret Lives of Church Ladies but once again seem to have lost a bit of my reading drive. Hopefully it will get better soon!

Movies and TV Shows

Haven't watched much either, aside from Chantal, a Flemish TV show which is a joy to watch!

Life

Phew, this busy and exhausting week finally came to an end, with two grandparents having to be admitted in the hospital and some medical mistakes made (which I'm hoping will not be permanent, but might end up being so). It's hard to stay positive at times. Luckily one of them got to return home and didn't end up going back to hospital the next day. On top of that, in the very same hospital a fire broke out today and one patient died not far from the area my grandfather stayed yesterday.

Blog and books

I didn't read much this week but hope next week will be better, I at least have one hour of reading planned as I am supervising our schools book club on Tuesday on which the only rule is to read. I have seen students read some great books last year, some even reading Jane Austen in English (not their native language) which made me quite proud of them. I will be reading Siddhartha there.

Movies and TV Shows

I've finished Alchemy of Souls, which was quite fun and perfect for some needed escapism. Not sure what to watch next, so do you have any recommendations?

Life

I'm looking forward to getting back to my pottery lessons next week, I always go home more relaxed than when I got there. I also hope to move this year or the next and went to my first bank meeting this week, I was a little disappointed with their information but will try and check out a couple of homes for sale soon.

Blog and books

I only managed to read a little bit this week, my current reads are The Secret Lives of Church ladies and Siddhartha. I might write a post about some of the books I hope to read in Autumn, I'm a mood reader and reading about this season might help as I always struggle a bit when the days are getting darker. I much prefer summer but could do with less heat.

Movies and TV Shows

I've started watching Alchemy of Souls, an entertaining Korean fantasy drama, some Flemish series and of course I've been watching the BBC a lot this week. Even though I'm not British, I do feel the loss.

Life

I didn't plan on being absent for so long on this blog, but work got extremely busy and I didn't have the time to read let alone to blog. This summer, however, I found the time to start reading again and I read some amazing books which made me want to talk about them on here again. I hope to find the time to read and blog more again, so I'm posting again in a more hopefull mood.

Blog and books

Some of my favourite reads were One Hundred Years of Solitude (although it also put me in a reading slump), The Island of Missing Trees, Much Ado About Nothing and Hamnet

This summer I finally travelled abroad again as well and visited some lovely bookshops in Amsterdam and London.

These are the books I collected in Amsterdam, I've already finished Outline and The Year of Magical Thinking, both intriguing and a recommendation.

These are the ones I got in London, I'd forgotten how much I love that place!
I went to Foyles, Waterstones and Word on the Water.

My favourite thing this summer was visiting Shakespeare's Globe and finally watching a play there, one of my favourites even: Much Ado About Nothing. It was an absolutely magical experience and I loved every second of it.

Movies and TV Shows

I also finally finished Poldark, I hadn't seen the last two seasons yet and I discovered The Boys, which was entertaining as well, but I do prefer Poldark

Do you have any new period drama recommendations?
