Life
My break is already over, I'm a bit sad I'm still feeling under the weather and next week will be quite busy again.
However, I did manage to go to a Picasso exhibition this week and to visit a bookshop. I enjoy going to museums but don't often find people willing to join me, so instead of missing out on the exhibition, I decided to take myself out on a date to visit the exhibition, have some lunch and visit a bookstore. It was a wonderful day!
I finished Bram Stoker's Dracula this week, I really enjoyed the first half of the book, it's very atmospheric, spooky and mysterious. The second part dragged a bit, and was a bit too long or repetitive in places and the ending was a little anticlimactic. I expected a more spectacular end for some reason. However, I still really enjoyed the book and would recommend it as a Halloween read! Looking forward to watch the film again, one of these days!
I'm currently reading Second Place by Rachel Cusk and De geschiedenis van mijn seksualiteit (a Dutch novel). The first one is my third Cusk book and the latter is the book I'm reading for a book club I joined at work. I rarely read books in Dutch anymore so it's good to have a purpose to read in Dutch again.
And now a mini book haul: These are the books I got on my trip and a bookmark from the Picasso exhibition to celebrate a perfect day!
Movies and TV Shows
I stared The House of the Dragon, I'm enjoying it and am curious to see how the story will unfold. Haven't watched Rings of Power yet, but hoping to do so this year as well. Have you seen it? Do you recommend it? I have heard mixed things about the show so far.
Also watched The Bear this week. Interesting show for sure, but a lot of chaotic things happen which didn't make the show relaxing to watch for me.
What did you watch or read recently?
As always please leave some recommendations on what I should read or watch next!

Sounds like a great day! I really liked Rings of Power and enthusiastically recommend! Yes there are a few iffy plot elements but I felt like it was so well done, and visually it's stunning. I felt like I was in Middle-earth again.
ReplyDeleteI liked House of the Dragon for entirely different reasons haha, although it's a little gory for my taste, but it's George RR Martin so that's expected :)
A Picasso exhibition sounds great.
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with museums! I love them, but nobody wants to go with me. I should just be braver and go on my own. I hope you have a good week!
ReplyDeleteAhhh I love visiting museums and would totally have gone to Picasso with you! But it's also good to go by yourself, like you did, in case you want to stare at one painting for 30 minutes but the friend is over it already and wants to move on. But in that situation you can just pick a time to regroup and head off in your different directions, I guess, but then what if you want to say to the friend LOOK AT THIS PAINTING!!!! Hmmm..
ReplyDeleteLove House of Dragons and The Bear. Wasn't a fan of Rings of Power and stopped after the first episode.
I'm so glad you went ahead and went to the Picasso exhibit and the bookstore. I would have loved to have gone with you. I'm happy that you had such a good time. I'm sorry that you were sick over this break. It's so annoying when that happens.
ReplyDeleteWe are still watching Modern Family. I hope we can find something else this week. We may try Enola Holmes.
