Sunday Post #32

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer (image above belongs to @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ). It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Life

I finished my temporary job as a substitute teacher in an amazing school. In less than two weeks, I felt connected to and really appreciated by my pupils. I received lovely reactions to my final lessons and I got the feeling that I did a good job and will be missed. I haven't really felt that way before in my previous teaching jobs. I will truly miss this school. I have been asked to stay and teach different pupils for another month, but because I start another fulltime job until June I couldn't accept even though I would have loved to stay. I start my new job on Monday and have received very little information so far, which stresses me out. We'll see how it goes.

I also went to Facts yesterday, I had a really fun time with my friends and I enjoyed the Q&A's of Jennifer Morrison, John Barrowman and David Tennant. Still not sure how I feel about the Tom Felton one.

Blog and books

I did not find the time to work on my blog or reply to comments, which makes me feel awful. I do read them and I will reply when I find the time to comment back on your blogs as well. Things have been hectic, lately.

I did finish Mirage but I ended up a little disappointed because not much actually happened in this book. I did like the diverse characters.

Movies and TV Shows

I did not have the time to watch a lot this week, the job kept me really busy. I did watch a couple of Goblin episodes but nothing more.

What did you read or watch recently? Do you have any recommendations?

Life

A lot has happened this week. I started a very temporary teaching job that ends next Friday. I absolutely love that school! Every single person is so friendly, encouraging and helpful and the students are great as well. It shows a different story than my previous school and while it still hurts I wasn't allowed to stay there, it makes me hopeful to find a better school in the future. Last week I was also contacted by another school, I had an interview on Tuesday and in the evening I received a call that I had the job. Again, it will take me about an hour to get there but it will be until the end of the schoolyear. It's part of a new government program which supports new teachers. I will be a substitute teacher in four schools when the regular teachers are out and I will have to do other jobs when there are no openings, but I will get paid fulltime for the rest of the year. It's good news but I'm unsure where I will end up, because I only received limited information, which stresses me out again. It is pretty cool that they contacted me themselves and I didn't apply for that job.

Blog and books

This was an extremely busy week and next week will be worse. I hope to post a Can't Wait Wednesday post and Sunday Post next week. I'm still behind on replying to comments and I can't promise this will change next week but I'll try.

Currently reading Mirage and I'm enjoying it. I read it on the train and I'm slowly getting that reading spark back, let's hope the end of the reading slump is in sight!

Movies and TV Shows

I haven't watched that much this week. I watched a couple of episodes of It's Okay, That's Love, Cheese in the Trap and Goblin. Not sure about the second one but I'm definitely continuing the others!

I also watched The Mirror Has Two Faces which was okay.

Life

I have been rejected for some more jobs and Friday evening I got a call saying I have a two-week teaching job (again a very long way from home) but I have to teach English and French. French! I haven't spoken French in years and now I have to teach it while other schools reject me for not having a degree in my native language, I now have to teach a language I barely speak. Not looking forward to that at all. On top of all this I caught a cold.

Blog and books

I finished my first book of the month, Every Heart a Doorway. I started Mirage on the train but I haven't read much so far. I hope to read more despite the slump.
This week I posted a Can't Wait Wednesday post and an August Wrap Up. I have not found the time to catch up to and replying to comments but I will do that as soon as possible.

Movies and TV Shows

I finished watching Secret and Oh My Ghost. Currently watching and enjoying It's Okay, That's Love. I also watched Hidden Figures which was incredible! I highly recommend the film and I hope to read the book soon!

August Wrap Up

As you might know, I'm in a massive reading slump which started in August. This means I didn't read all that much in August and I believe September will be even worse. All things considered, I'm still happy I read four books last month!

1. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer

I wanted to read this because I wanted to watch the movie as well and a book about a literary society sounded like perfection. I didn't end up liking this one as much as I hoped I would. I believe the epistolary format and the first slow half of the book had something to do with that. I gave The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society 3 stars but I do prefer the book over the film.

2. The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

This was fun but a lot more erotic than I anticipated. I really liked the characters. 4 stars.

3. I Think I Love You (Oxford, #5) by Lauren Layne

To be honest, I barely remember anything about this book. I gave it 2 stars.

4. Take It as a Compliment by Maria Stoian

This is a very hard-hitting graphic memoir about real life experiences of sexual abuse, violence and harassment. I highly recommend it but be aware of these trigger warnings. 5 stars.

Have you read any of these books or are you planning to? Leave your thoughts and recommendations down below!

Can't Wait Wednesday: The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and talk about the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. It's based on Waiting On Wednesday hosted at Breaking the Spine.

Captivating and boldly imaginative, with a tale of sisterhood at its heart, Rena Rossner's debut fantasy invites you to enter a world filled with magic, folklore, and the dangers of the woods.

Raised in a small village surrounded by vast forests, Liba and Laya have lived a peaceful sheltered life - even if they've heard of troubling times for Jews elsewhere. When their parents travel to visit their dying grandfather, the sisters are left behind in their home in the woods.

But before they leave, Liba discovers the secret that their Tati can transform into a bear, and their Mami into a swan. Perhaps, Liba realizes, the old fairy tales are true. She must guard this secret carefully, even from her beloved sister.

Soon a troupe of mysterious men appear in town and Laya falls under their spell-despite their mother's warning to be wary of strangers. And these are not the only dangers lurking in the woods...

The sisters will need each other if they are to become the women they need to be - and save their people from the dark forces that draw closer.

-- Goodreads.com description --

The synopsis of The Sisters of the Winter Wood sounds really intriguing and I simple adore the cover! This book will be published on the 25th of September according to Goodreads.

Life

I am still applying to jobs but I keep being rejected mostly because I don't have a Dutch degree. It's still a bit depressing, but I figure, one day they will not have that many teachers left to pick from and hopefully I get my chance then. I do enjoy the three hours of Spanish I teach on Monday evening.

Blog and books

I read a little more of Every Heart a Doorway, I hope to finish it on the train tomorrow. I'm planning to reply to all your comments early next week.

Movies and TV Shows

I've been watching one of my favourite Korean dramas so far, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, it's soo cute and positive! Definitely my favourite thing this week! I also finished Oh My Venus and started watching Secret.

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Bingeworthy TV Shows

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme  which was previously hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader GirlEach week bloggers post their top ten on a previously suggested topic. This week's topic is Ten

(image belongs to That Artsy Reader Girl)

Let's start with some Korean drama.

1. What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?

This is a very cute romance Korean drama.

2. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

I loved this because it plays with gender roles.

My two favourite Spanish shows at the moment:

3. La Casa de Papel

A group of criminals plan to commit the perfect heist. I was constantly on the edge of my seat!

4. Las Chicas del Cable

A romantic historical series, the third season comes out on Friday.

5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

A classic I can't get enough of!

6. Firefly

This is an amazing sci-fi series that should have had multiple seasons but I still really recommend the first one!

7. Sense8

Another series that should have had more seasons but I finished each season in three days. It is amazing and so diverse!

8. Sherlock

I do not need to explain how brilliant this show is, do I?

9. Stranger Things

I can't wait to watch the next season!

10. Godless

A feminist cowboy series that blew me away! A must-see!

Life

After applying for several jobs, I was finally told I could teach Spanish for 5 hours a week in two different locations. One location was close by and the other takes me more than an hour to get there. The day after, unfortunately, I was told that the teaching job at the closest location wasn't available anymore. So now I will only be teaching for 3 hours on Monday evening for about two months. Things really are not going my way lately. But I guess it's better than nothing.
I want to thank everyone for your kind messages on my last Sunday Post, it really helped!

Blog and books

I read one comic and about 70 pages of Every Heart a Doorway.
I posted a Can't Wait Wednesday Post and a Stacking the Shelves Post. Next week I will post my August Wrap Up.
Movies and TV Shows

I'm still really enjoying watching Korean dramas. They take me away from my depressed thoughts and stressful moments. This week I finished Secret Garden and started watching Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Oh My Venus.

I also watched the 2016 version of The Magnificent Seven with my dad, which was fun.
