October, November and December 2020 Wrap Up

I didn't read that much during the months of October and November, so I decided to combine the last three months of 2020 in one wrap up.

These are the two books I read in October:

1. Becoming by Michelle Obama 

I listened to the audiobook and loved the experience! 5 stars!

2. The Bird's Nest by Shirley Jackson

My third Shirley Jackson novel, very interesting and entertaining! I always like stories about a character with multiple personalities. 4 stars!

These are the two books I read in November:

3. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Entertaining, weird and very atmospheric, 4 stars!

4. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

4 stars, this book has been on my shelves for quite a long time. I bought it years ago in a second-hand bookshop in Gerona, Spain. I remember the place very well and hope to visit it again in a year or two.

These are the seven books I read in December (I found some new favourites!):

5. Educated by Tara Westover 

Another great biography and audiobook. I can't recommend this book enough. Read it! 5 stars!

6. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

3 stars, (unpopular opinion: not my favourite Schwab read).

7. Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

This was such an entertaining and interesting collection of stories set in only one place, a cafe. 5 stars!

8. Only Dull People Are Brilliant at Breakfast by Oscar Wilde

I really like Oscar Wilde, although I don't agree with every quote. 4 stars!

9. In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl's Journey to Freedom by Yeonmi Park

This memoir was incredibly difficult to read at times but it's such a powerful book, everyone should read it. 5 stars! As in Educated, this book also shows the importance of education.

10. Giant Days, Vol. 7 (Giant Days, #7) by John Allison 

4 stars, I quite enjoy this series.

11. Giant Days, Vol. 8 (Giant Days, #8) by John Allison

4 stars.

May 2020 Wrap Up

Here is my May wrap up. I didn't read anything in the beginning of May, but the last (two) weeks I did read 2 books and 2 manga volumes. I'm quite happy with what I read after all. I do hope to read more in June.

1. Heidi by Johanna Spyri

I recently got Heidi and A Little Princess to complete my Puffin in Bloom collection. I love these designs. I didn't know anything about these two books, but I'm happy I read Heidi. I gave it three stars. I probably would have loved this more when I was younger. I hope to read A Little Princess or a Secret Garden soon as well. Which one should I read first?

2. Men Without Women: Stories by Haruki Murakami

My first Murakami book! I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. I really want to read more books by Murakami soon. Do you have any recommendations?
I gave Men Without Women five stars.

3. Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 2 (Fullmetal Alchemist, #2) by Hiromu Arakawa

I'm borrowing the boxset from my friend's brother, I read the first volume last year and wasn't too impressed but I feel bad that I didn't read more, so I'm going to try to read them all soon!

4. Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 3 (Fullmetal Alchemist, #3) by Hiromu Arakawa

This still isn't my favourite manga series but the characters are starting to grow on me. I'm enjoying it more.

April 2020 Wrap Up

Here is my April wrap up. I was hoping to read more but stress got in the way. I am still quite happy with what I read, though!

1. Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2) by Libba Bray

My least favourite in the series so far, it was too slow for me. 3 stars.

2. You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

This one was so much fun! 4 stars!

3. Bad Saint (All The Pretty Things #1) by Monica James

4. Before the Devil Breaks You (The Diviners #3) by Libba Bray 

I really enjoyed this one! I am definitely going to finish the series this year! 5 stars.

March 2020 Wrap Up

Here is my March wrap up. It was quite a difficult month for everyone I believe, but I still managed to read some books and webtoons.

Before all the Corona madness started I discovered Webtoon and I read a lot of comics on the app. I highly recommend them all! I added the Webtoon descriptions, so you can read a summary of the plot.

1. Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe

This is a stunning Hades and Persephone retelling. I love the artwork. 5 stars!

Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. 2. True beauty by Yaongyi

After binge-watching beauty videos online, a shy, comic book fan masters the art of make-up, then sees her social standing skyrocket as she becomes her school’s prettiest pretty girl literally overnight. 4 stars!

3. Let's Play by Mongié

She’s young, single and about to achieve her dream of creating incredible videogames. But then life throws her a one-two punch: a popular streamer gives her first game a scathing review. Even worse she finds out that same troublesome critic is now her new neighbor! A funny, sexy and all-too-real story about gaming, memes and social anxiety. Come for the plot, stay for the doggo. 5 stars!

4. SubZero by Junepurrr

What would you sacrifice to save your family? How far would you go to protect your people? For Clove, the last princess of a near-extinct Dragon clan, the answer is the unthinkable: MARRY your greatest sworn enemy in an effort to bring peace to your land. 
5 stars!


5. Midnight Poppy Land by Lilydusk

After making a grisly discovery in the countryside, a small town book editor’s life gets entangled with a young Mafia lord and his intimidating bodyguard...even as every step she takes draws her deeper into the dangerous underworld of the city. 5 stars!

6. Asuras Bride by Lilydusk

On her way to an arranged marriage, a haughty princess is ambushed and held captive by bandits until she is rescued by a tired, hungry and pissed off soldier. 4 stars!

7. House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig 

I'm enjoying YA stories less and less, this was good but not really my cup of tea anymore. 3 stars. (I haven't read Ninth House yet)

8. House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

Loved this one! 5 stars!

9. Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez

4 stars. Not sure when I will continue because these volumes are really expensive.

February 2020 Wrap Up

Here is my February wrap up. I'm happy I was able to read more this month than in January!

1. Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

This was a fun book. I enjoyed it but I like adult romances more. 3 stars.

2. If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane 

Really enjoyed this book, a bit slow in the beginning but I was hooked when the action between the two main characters picked up. 4 stars! I recommend this one and I'm looking forward to read more books by this author. Do you have any recommendations?

3. Get a Life, Chloe Brown (The Brown Sisters, #1) by Talia Hibbert 

I didn't like this one as much as I hoped I would, but it was still a fun read. 4 stars.

4. Born, Darkly (Darkly, Madly Duet, #1) by Trisha Wolfe 

This was very, very dark. I liked it but the ending creeped me out. Not sure I will read the sequel, I'm doubtful it will have a lot more to add to the story. 3 stars.

5. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Loved this one! It was quite slow paced, though, which is why I gave it 4 stars.

6. The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Mackenzies & McBrides, #1) by Jennifer Ashley

It took some time to get used to the writing style. 3 stars. Might read more by this author.

7. A Nordic King (Nordic Royals, #3) by Karina Halle 

Liked it but thought it was a bit too long. 3 stars.

8. The Driver's Seat by Muriel Spark

Quite enjoyed this one. It certainly shows how self-destructive people can be. 4 stars. I'm now very intrigued to read more Muriel Spark books.  Do you have any recommendations?

January 2020 Wrap Up

Here is my January wrap up. It was quite a busy month, so I only read three books.

1. Snug: A Collection of Comics about Dating Your Best Friend by Catana Chetwynd

I got an e-arc from Netgalley, which I really enjoyed. You can find my review here. 

2. Carry On (Simon Snow #1) by Rainbow Rowell

I didn't like this one as much as most people did. I guess  Rainbow Rowell's books are just not for me. 2 stars.

3. Waiting for Spring 10 (Waiting for Spring, #10) by Anashin

I really like this manga series, it's very cute.

October Wrap Up

These are the books I read in October, I'm quite happy with what I read this month. It has been a good reading month after all!


1. Darkdawn (The Nevernight Chronicle, #3) by Jay Kristoff

I liked Darkdawn but I somehow also feel disappointed in the final instalment of this series. I expected more and I had some problems with the plot. 4 stars. Have you read it?

2. Bringing Down the Duke (A League of Extraordinary Women, #1) by Evie Dunmore

I enjoyed this but didn't like some of the choices made by the main characters. 4 stars.

3. The Merciful Crow (The Merciful Crow, #1) by Margaret Owen

I'm starting to read less ya, but you can't really tell based on this month's wrap up. That said, I quite enjoyed the new setting of this book, but I didn't like the romance all that much and most characters annoyed me. 3 stars.

4. Tunnel of Bones (Cassidy Blake, #2) by Victoria Schwab

Really enjoyed this one! Can't wait to read what will happen next! 4,5 stars!

5. Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 1 (Fullmetal Alchemist, #1) by Hiromu Arakawa

I borrowed the boxset from the brother of one my best friends, I don't have a lot of time to read these but I'm glad I started. Not sure about this series yet though. 3 stars. Does it get better?

6. The Diviners (The Diviners, #1) by Libba Bray 

LOVED this! Definitely my favourite book this month! I ordered the sequels but they still have to be shipped, otherwise I probably would have devoured those as well! Highly recommend this series! I didn't expect a ya series to be this creepy. 5 stars!

7. Wicked Fox (Gumiho, #1) by Kat Cho

I heard some mixed reviews about this one, it won my Twitter poll, so I decided to pick it up. When I started it, I was still suffering from a bookhangover from reading The Diviners, so to me Wicked Fox had a very slow start. It was difficult to get into to it. However, once I got to the second part of the book, I couldn't put it down! 

As you may know, I love watching Kdrama and this book reminded me of one all the time. I loved the Korean and magical elements. 4 stars.

8. Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell

I liked it, but there wasn't all that much to it. Kind of wish I didn't buy it. 3 stars.
It also made me want to visit a pumpkin patch, those sound look like a lot of fun. Sadly, I don't have any in my region.

September Wrap Up

I'm very behind on wrap ups and book hauls but I hope to catch up on them one day. Anyway, here is my September wrap up. I started work again after summer break, so considering I didn't have a lot of time to read, I'm happy I finished three books!

1. The Dragon Republic (The Poppy War #2) by R.F. Kuang

Loved this book! It's the sequel to The Poppy War and I can't wait to read the third book! 5 stars!

2. Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove #1) by Shelby Mahurin 

I loved this book! I read it at a time when I was very stressed out and this book helped me to get my mind off certain things. Loved the characters and the setting! 5 stars! Highly recommend!

3. Well Met by Jen DeLuca

Liked this one well enough, although the characters really frustrated me at times. Loved the Renaissance Faire parts! Wish I could visit it! 3 stars!
