Top Ten Favourite Books I read in 2020

As you will notice my reading tastes changed a bit this year. I discovered I love reading non-fiction books and Japanese fiction. Two genres I previously didn't read much of. I hope to read more of these in 2021 as well. In addition, I also discovered I don't dislike audiobooks and that they're perfect to read non-fiction books.

During the strange year of 2020, I found to time to read more classics as well, these have been on my list for ages and I'm so happy I finally read them and enjoyed them as much as I thought I would.

Here are the best books I read in 2020 (in order of the date I read them in)!

I finished this yesterday and truly enjoyed it. Madeline Miller has become one of my favourite authors this year! 

8. The Bride Test (The Kiss Quotient #2) by Helen Hoang

9. Heartstopper: Volume One (Heartstopper #1) by Alice Oseman

I just picked Heartstopper up yesterday evening and now I've read the first three volumes, loved this so much! And you can read everything on Tapas.

10. Normal People by Sally Rooney

Top Ten Books I read in 2018

I didn't know until just now that this was this week's Top Ten Tuesday Topic, which is why I'm only posting this today.

Here are the best books I read in 2018!  (Spoiler: there are 11 books here!)
These are in no particular order.

1. Godsgrave (The Nevernight Chronicle #2) by Jay Kristoff

This was the first book I read in 2018 and it was fantastic! Loved the plot twists, characters and story! Can't wait to read the third book!

2. The Secret History by Donna Tartt

This was on my TBR for so long because I knew I was going to love it and I wanted to read it at the right time. Donna Tartt is such a fantastic author, I will read everything she writes!

3. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Some people hate, others love it and I definitely loved it!

4. Kings of the Wyld (The Band #1) by Nicholas Eames

Loved this humorous fantasy novel! Can't wait to read more!

5. The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis

A very hard-hitting story! 

6. The Poppy War (The Poppy War #1) by R.F. Kuang

7. The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy #1) by S.A. Chakraborty 

8. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Incredible book! Can't wait to watch the film when it's released in my country at the end of January!

9. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Fantastic book! Really enjoyed the movie as well! Highly recommend!

10. All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries #1) by Martha Wells 

I adore Murderbot! Such a great character!

11. The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

Lots of twists and turns, bit confusing in the beginning but well worth reading!

Top Ten Favourite Books I Read in 2017

These are the best books I read in 2017! They are listed in no particular order.

1. Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer #1) by Laini Taylor 

This was just such a wonderful story! Laini Taylor has an incredible writing style and I can't wait to read the sequel, probably my most anticipated book this year!

2. The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue (Guide #1) by Mackenzi Lee

This was such a pleasant surprise! I enjoyed every page! And the author actually interacted with me on Twitter! I want to read everything she publishes in the future! She writes the most amazing characters!

3. Giant Days volumes 1-4 by John Allison, etc.

This has quickly become one of my favourite comic series! It's such fun and the illustrations are so vivid and colourful!

4. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

Loved the book and the TV show! Highly recommend both!

5. Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood

Read this before the TV show came out, still need to watch it. The book was incredible, though! Atwood is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors!

6. Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

This book was incredible! Read it!

7. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

I had watched the movies several times but I know finally read the book as well! You are never too old enough to read this story!

8. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty 

Mystery is a genre I almost never read, but this book was such a pleasant surprise! I just couldn't put it down!

9. Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed

I read three non-fiction books this year and I really liked all of them. I'm glad I'm branching out in so many different genres. Also really enjoyed the movie! I now always associate Simon and Garfunkel with this story.

10. Shades of Magic trilogy by V.E. Schwab 

I now have three copies of the first book and I'm not even the least bit ashamed! Really enjoyed this series! I kind of hope Schwab will write more stories in this world!

Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books I've Read So Far in 2017

1. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

I absolutely loved this book! I'm currently watching the TV show and it's amazing as well! I definitely recommend both! 

I'm looking forward to read more Atwood in the near future! Recommendations are always welcome!

2. Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

This book was amazing! I forced my mom to buy it in Dutch and she really enjoyed it as well and passed it on to my grandmother and she's enjoying it so much she wants me to make a list of books she should read which made my little reader heart so happy!

3. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty 

This was definitely a pleasant surprise since this is a genre I almost never pick up. I've seen two episodes of the TV show and I really liked them as well. I got my mom the Dutch translation for Christmas again she passed it around in our family and this month my aunt told us she liked it so much, she immediately bought all Liane Moriarty's other books. I'm kind of impressed my book recommendations to my mom are appreciated by the rest of my family as well! Because this actually has never happened before.

4. Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1) by Laini Taylor

This book is a gem! If you're only planning to read one young adult novel this year, let it be this one! You won't regret it! I didn't know anything about this book when I started reading it and I feel that's the best way to go! The only thing I'll say is that Strange is such a precious bookworm! I loved him from the start.

5. The Arrival by Shaun Tan

This is a beautiful graphic novel without any words. It's stunning!

6. Geekerella by Ashley Poston 

This one stole my heart because it portrays conventions so truthfully! I only started going to conventions last October but it certainly won't be my last! And also, FIREFLY references!

7. Giant Days, Vol. 1 (Giant Days, #1) by John Allison

This comic is about three girls going to university and it's a really fun read!

8. Shades of Magic trilogy by V.E. Schwab

I read the entire trilogy this year and I can't get enough of this world and these characters! If you are looking for a good fantasy trilogy, you should definitely check this one out!

9. Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

This one is a modern young adult retelling of The Shop Around the Corner or You've Got Mail. It's a really cute romance and there are a lot of references to old Hollywood movies, which I completely adored! Great summer read!

10. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

I read this for the very first time! I did watch the Megan Follows often but I never got around to reading the book. I'm so glad I finally read it because this was the perfect comfort read!
