The Honeymoon Trap is a fun romance read. At first, I had some trouble adjusting to the writing style and while it still isn't my favourite, I did not mind it when I read on.

I did have a couple of issues with this book, mainly the main character used to be fat and unattractive and changed everything about herself to look hot and now her crush is interested in her. I hate to read these types of things. It's unoriginal and not well executed in this book.

I also dislike it when characters run into burning buildings when the fire department has arrived. 

Aside from these issues I did enjoy the book. It's a fun, cute romance novel. 3 stars!

Review: My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows

I picked this book up in part because I love the movie with Helena Bonham Carter, Lady Jane, and because I want to know more about this historical figure. This is where it went wrong for me. I love the slowly developed hate-to-love romance in the movie but the romance in this book felt so different to me. To me it kept revolving about the same angsty feelings because the two main characters hardly talked about themselves and their feelings to each other. I believe the book would have been a lot more interesting if the characters were more open to each other earlier on. (As you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of angsty romances).

This brings us to the movie itself, there were some obvious parallels between the movie and the book. At one point, the narrator says that Jane and G had discussed what they would do if they were king and queen at length. This true for the movie as that is an entire and pivotal scene which establishes a connection between Jane and Gifford. In the novel, despite saying otherwise, the similar scene is barely a page while they mention it has been discussed at length. This did not sit right with me.

There were some random quotes from famous movies and Shakespeare thrown in that really irked me. For example, "Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!" which is obviously from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Another example is "Frying pans, who knew?" which is from the Disney movie Tangled (or Rapunzel depending on where you are in the world). I simply did not feel like these quotes added anything to the story and I just wish they were left out.

My Lady Jane is divided into two parts, one part that is more or less based on historical events and the second part that moves away from history in its entirety. I liked the second part much better than the first because it's not based on history (or the movie). The magical elements like Gifford turning into a horse during the day did not bother me as much because now it became just a story. I believe I would have liked the first part better if there had been no magic.

If you are expecting a fluffy historical romance with magical elements you will probably enjoy this. My main issues are actually to be explained by my expectations, so don't expect to learn anything of value about Lady Jane and just read it like a historical fantasy not based on anything in particular. I would definitely have enjoyed it more like this. All in all, I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars but that is me being generous. It took me such a long time to get through the first part of the book but I liked the second part so much better.

Review: Perfect World by Rie Aruga

I got this manga as an e-arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Therefore, I would like to thank the publishers and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this manga in advance.

I'm not a huge manga reader, I've only read 5 others so far (Death Note and Horimiya). I want to read more manga and when I saw this title on Netgalley, I didn't hesitate.

Perfect World is a cute romance story about a girl falling in love with her former high school crush, only now he's in a wheelchair. He has issues accepting that he'll never walk again and how that affects his life.  

I really enjoyed this manga, it was a fast and entertaining read and if I could I would immediately continue to read the sequel. My only problem with Perfect World is a problem I have with manga in general, sometimes I find it confusing to determine who is talking or what exactly is happening and I would love it if the story had more depth, but then I would be comparing the genre to actual novels, which I shouldn't do.

If you like manga or if you want to try it out for the first time, this is a nice choice that will leave you wanting for more! I gave this manga 4 stars and I hope to read more in the future! Very cute but at times thought-provoking read.

October Wrap Up

These are the books I read in October!

1. Warcross (Warcross, #1) by Marie Lu 

I started this at the end of September and finished last month. I really enjoyed this book! Probably my favourite Marie Lu book, highly recommend it! 5 stars!

2. How to Be Perfectly Unhappy by Matthew Inman

I got an arc of this comic/graphic novel from Netgalley and I would like to thank the publishers for this opportunity. You can read my review here. 3 stars.

3. The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

This book was amazing! I loved every single page! Can't wait to read the next one! 5 stars! Highly, highly recommend! My absolute favourite read this month! 

4. Faking It (Losing It, #2) by Cora Carmack

4 stars. Nice romance story.

5. A Curious Beginning (Veronica Speedwell, #1) by Deanna Raybourn 

3 stars. Mystery was okay but I felt there was something missing throughout the whole story. Veronica is a good character but did annoy me at times.

6. Death Note, Vol. 2: Confluence (Death Note, #2) by Tsugumi Ohba

4 stars. Really enjoying this manga series! I have to pay my library 3 euros for each volume, so I'm considering buying the boxset. What do you guys think?

8. The Duke and I (With 2nd Epilogue) (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn

3 stars. There is one scene in this book which I really hated, otherwise I would have given it a higher rating. In addition, I didn't feel like the second epilogue added anything special. It spoil some of the following books as Daphne is visited by her brother and his wife. But romances are usually predictable in that regard, so you might be fine with that.

9. The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons, #2) by Julia Quinn 

3 stars.

10. Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist, #1) by Renee Ahdieh 

3 stars. I really enjoyed most of the book but I do have some problems with the writing style and I had trouble to connect with the characters. Ultimately, I didn't like the ending at all, so much so that I'm in doubt to whether I'll read the sequel. I think the vibe of the second book will be completely different and the atmosphere of Flame in the Mist and Black Clan members were my favourite things of the book.

11. The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1) by Marie Lu

I started this after finishing The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue but I struggled so much I had to put it down for a while. At the end of the month, I pushed myself to finish it instead of not finishing it all. I'm glad I did because the end is original and the best thing about The Young Elites. It actually made me interested in picking up the rest of the series but because of my lack of interest before and my struggles to finish it, I have to give this book 2 stars.

September Wrap Up

These are the books I read in September. I'm quite happy with my reading month! I read some amazing books!

Review: How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry

I received an arc copy from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review. However, I wasn't able to read the pdf in time, because I really struggle with those, the small font in particular. So, I was able to get a copy through my library and finally had a chance to read it. And let me tell you, I'm so glad I did!

I requested this book because it's about a book shop and I simply adore books about books! In addition, I really enjoy reading romance novels as well.

Things I liked:

- The book shop is the central part of the novel. The story is told through various perspective which have the book store in common. 

- I was engrossed in every single storyline and actually want more! Every character was unique and were interesting to read about! I do believe Dillon and Alice are the cutest!

- I was a bit stressed out at the time I started reading this but this book calmed me down a little. It was like the perfect book at the right time kind of thing.

- I now want to visit and actually work in Nightingale Books.


Things I didn't like:

- I think it should have been a bit longer. I felt things wrapped up really quickly and I actually didn't want it too end.

- I would have loved to see more of Julius!


All in all, I really enjoyed this book! It really relaxed me and that was exactly what I needed at the time! I loved all the references to other books and I really want to read Anna Karenina right now! 

I gave How to Find Love in a Bookshop 4 stars! If you are looking for an engrossing romance novel about books, you should check out Veronica Henry's novel! I really recommend it!

Review: Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

This book is so adorable! All I needed to know was that this is a You've Got Mail retelling and I immediately added it to my TBR. Then I found out that the main character is into watching old classic Hollywood movies and I just had the buy the e-book and read it straightaway. 

I love watching those classic Hollywood movies and to be honest, one of my favourite films is The Shop Around the Corner, which was the original You've Got Mail. James Stewart is also one of my favourite actors, as I love him in The Shop Around the Corner, Harvey, The Philadelphia Story and many more. And anyone looking at my Goodreads.com profile picture knows I'm obsessed with Audrey Hepburn. I even have her poster up on my wall! So I was definitely intrigued by the many movie references made in this book.

To say this book was the perfect match for me is not an exaggeration. The characters are interesting, relatable, cute and funny. I believe the blurb says it all, so that's why I'm not going to go more into detail. Just believe me, if you are looking for an adorable young adult contemporary based with a lot of references to movies, just give this one a try. You won't be disappointed.

Alex, Approximately is the perfect Spring/Summer read! I gave it 5 out of 5 stars! That said, I now really want to go watch North by Northwest, so I'm not going to stretch this much longer.

Movie Review: Bridget Jones's Baby

In Bridget Jones's Baby, our beloved Bridget has split up with Mark Darcy for some years now. She has a career she's proud of but once again she's single. The movie starts with a nod to Bridget Jones's Diary, as the opening scene is a shot of Bridget celebrating her birthday alone whilst playing the song "All By Myself". A classic which I immediately associate with Bridget Jones, even after all this time. If I for some reason need to remind you which scene it is, or if you just want to see it again because, let's face it, it's a great scene, you can watch it here.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason was released in 2004, so now, twelve years later we get the new instalment in the series. I have to admit, I'm a huge Bridget Jones fan. The first film remains my favourite because blue soup, the "it's raining men" fight and the line "I like you very much, just as you are" in combination with the social commentary are what made that movie perfect to me. And of course the fact that it's a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice doesn't hurt. Bridget is not your typical romantic heroine, she actually feels real and relatable. It is one of my favourite movies of all time and it forever will remain so. As a teenager I used to watch Bridget Jones's Diary obsessively over and over again (I did that with all my favourite films, by the way, I'm crazy like that :p ). It's thus fair to say that I'm emotionally attached to the characters and get nostalgia feeling to the movies and books by even just listening to "It's Raining Men", "All By Myself", "I Believe in a Thing Called Love", "I'm Every Woman" and so many more!

Therefore this movie had big shoes to fill. One of the biggest differences in relation to the previous movies is the absence of Hugh Grant's Daniel Cleaver. I didn't particularly mind that because I never liked that character much anyway but it did change the dynamics of the movie though. Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth fight for Bridget's heart and baby in this one, but Dempsey's Jack is never as awful to Bridget as Daniel used to be. The only thing I missed about Daniel were his epic fights with Mark! :p

A fantastic addition is Emma Thompson, amazing (as always) as Dr. Rawlings, Bridget's doctor. Every time Thompson is on screen, she steals the scene. Dr. Rawlings is absolutely hilarious! Ed Sheeran makes an appearance as himself which was entertaining as Bridget didn't recognize him at all. She still has clueless moments, though not as frequently as in the previous films.

Bridget gets pregnant after spending a night with Jack and a week later a night with Mark Darcy. She does not know who the father is and the entire plot of the movie is about how those three characters deal with that. At first, I didn't think this cliché plot would work. They could have chosen something much more original for Bridget to deal with. The social commentary of the first movie is absent here. However I still really enjoyed Bridget Jones's Baby. 

In its own right it's one of the best romantic comedies of recent years. It's funny, romantic, charming and a pleasure to return to some of my favourite characters. I immensely enjoyed myself despite the cliché plot. This movie actually made me cry with laughter, not once, but multiple times, which is a rare occurrence for me.

Is it as good as the first one? No. But sequels rarely are, in my opinion. As I said before, Bridget Jones's Baby is still better than so many other rom-coms out there and I highly recommend you go see it if you haven't already! You will surely be entertained!

Note: I do recommend to watch the previous films as you will be more familiar with the characters and their history but you don't need to. It is possible to watch this film without prior knowledge of the previous ones, although you will be missing out on those!

August Wrap Up

I read seven books this month and a couple of novella's. I haven't been blogging much this summer because of exams and papers and a huge reading slump and such but I've collected my thoughts on most of these books and will be reviewing at least four of them in the near future!

1. The Billionaire Bachelor by Jessica Lemmon 

This was a fun romance novel and I was just in the right mood for it! Really enjoyed it and would recommend it if you're looking for a fun romance! 3 stars.

2. I'll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios 

I don't often read YA or New Adult romance novels but I decided to give this one a try. I really enjoyed it! The characters are awesome! However, Josh's actions got on my nerves one too many times and therefore I'm giving it 4 stars.

3. Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

I had some problems with this book and I will discuss them in a review later this month. And I hate it when my favourite character dies! 3 stars.

4. Cruel Crown by Victoria Aveyard

This is a collection of two novella's that didn't really add anything to the series but where okay to read. Especially since Mare is one of my biggest problems in Glass Sword. 3 stars.

5. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling

I'm still going to review this book even though everyone has probably already read it. 3 stars.

6. The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

Loved this one! So much! 5 stars!

7. The Mirror & the Maze (The Wrath and the Dawn, #1.5) by Renee Ahdieh

This was a very short novella and I got it as a free e-book on kobo.com! 3 stars.

8. The Moth & the Flame (The Wrath & the Dawn, #0.25) by Renee Ahdieh 

This was a longer novella and I really enjoyed it! 5 stars!

9. The Rose and the Dagger (The Wrath and the Dawn, #2) by Renee Ahdieh

Man, this contained some plot twists I really did not see coming! And such sad moments as well! I believe I cried a little...
Also, my amazing friend got me this as a birthday gift! Once again, Sarah, thank you so much! I loved it! 5 stars!

10. This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab 

I also have some remarks on this book however it was such a quick read despite being 400 pages. 4 stars. Review to come!
