August Wrap Up

These are the books I read in August, after finishing my Master thesis in the beginning of the month, I experienced a reading slump. When I keep that in mind, I think I did fairly well this month. Without further ado, here is my August wrap up.

1. Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed

I really enjoyed this book, but I did read it on and in off in July and August. I gave it 5 out of stars and I would also recommend the movie although the book is always better.

2. Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

Again, I started this in July but because of thesis stuff, I couldn't get back to it until after I handed in my assignment. This might have lead me to enjoy it a bit less, I felt some parts were slow and rather boring. I love the characters and would love to see more of them in the future, somehow.

Slightly disappointed with this one. 4 stars.

3. Sleeping Giants (Themis Files #1) by Sylvain Neuvel

I feel very conflicted about this book, it's original and the premise is interesting but it can be terribly slow and you never completely get the sense you know everything that's going on. Since the story is told in interviews, I felt the characters lacked emotions. I gave it 4 stars but I'm constantly wondering if I should give it 3 stars instead. I'm not sure if it's worth to pick up the sequel. What do you guys recommend?

4. A Poison Dark and Drowning (Kingdom on Fire, #2) by Jessica Cluess

I enjoyed this book more than the first one! 3 stars! Review to come soon! I got an e-book arc from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

5. They Can't Kill Us All: The Story of Black Lives Matter by Wesley Lowery

Another non-fiction book, who could have guessed? This my third one this year and I am beginning to like the genre more and more. This book gives an overview of the events that lead to the Black Lives Matter movement and since I'm not American I did not know most of this before. It did feel quite dense at times which is why I read over the course of a couple of months. I gave this book 5 stars. Review to come soon! I got an arc from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

6. Big Mushy Happy Lump (Sarah's Scribbles, #2) by Sarah Andersen

I love Sarah Scribbles! 5 stars without a doubt!

7. Ship of Magic (Liveship Traders, #1) by Robin Hobb

It's a bit of a theme this month, but I started reading this a couple of months ago and I am so glad to have finally finished it! 4 stars!

Which books did you read recently? Have you read any of the books mentioned above or are you planning to? Leave your thoughts down below!

Have a great weekend and happy reading everyone!

  1. It looks like you had an excellent month. I've seen mixed reviews for Sleeping Giants. I didn't realize it was told through interviews. I can see how it could be hard to connect with it.
