Sunday Post #45

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer (image above belongs to @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer). It’s a chance to share news ~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Life

Even though I have time off work, life has been very busy. My grandmother is home now but was unable to leave the hospital for Christmas. This means both my great-aunt and grandmother were alone on Christmas Eve, which made me feel terrible. I hope to celebrate New Year's Eve with them tomorrow, though!

Blog and books

Because I had to go to the hospital almost every day of the week, I didn't have the time to blog a lot. I did start reading The Mad Ship by Robin Hobb, my goal was to finish it this year but that is sadly not going to happen. I'm really enjoying it though! If I had the time I would be reading it all day long!

Movies and TV Shows

I watched Death and Nightingales, Mary Poppins, The Book Thief, A Nutcracker Christmas and the first episode of This Is Us.

What did you read or watch recently?

As always please leave some recommendations on what I should read or watch next!

Life

Christmas holidays finally started but my grandmother will have to stay in the hospital for a while and will likely not even be home on New Year's Eve, which makes everyone sad and not in the mood to celebrate. She has good days and bad days but I'm still hoping she will improve soon.

I did receive a better teaching schedule last Friday, which means I will be able to recuperate from my evening class on Monday evenings. This will make this a lot easier in the future!

Blog and books

I read quite a lot this week, I finished The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy and two other books for the Magical Readathon. I'm so happy to be reading again! I've also posted something other than only a Sunday Post this week! Hurray, such progress!

Movies and TV Shows

I started watching Mrs. Wilson, so far I'm really enjoying it!

Magical Readathon: Christmas at Hogwarts TBR

This weekend I decided to participate in the Magical Readathon: Christmas at Hogwarts hosted by the incredible Book Roast. I didn't have the time to blog about this yet, but I have already finished two challenges! You can find more info about the readathon here.
The readathon started on Monday and finished on the 26th of December.

Book Roast made a map of challenges you need to follow:

1. Finish your coursework

Finish your current read: I already completed this challenge as I finished reading The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy on Monday. I enjoyed but I don't think it's as good as the first book.

2. Have a snowball fight with the Weasley twins

A book you think will be humorous: All Systems Red by Martha Wells, the first Murderbot novella. I loved this! I'm excited to read more!

3. Visit 3 Broomsticks for muller pixie wine

A read that should only take you a day/evening: Either Giant Days volume 5 or Artificial Condition the sequel to All Systems Red.

4. Sneak into the kitchen to gift Dobby odd socks

Read that has an item of clothing on the cover: The Book Thief. This was on my official 2018 TBR and I still haven't read it, so I'm going to try and read it now!

5. Bring a festive treat to Hedwig at the Owlery

Animal on the cover/title/series name: I will attempt to read The Mad Ship by Robin Hobb because this was the last book on my 2018 and I want to at least make an attempt to read this.

This does not have an animal on the cover but another edition does. I planned to read this for a different challenge but I couldn't resist starting All Systems Red yesterday evening and didn't have the time to finish it in one day.
I will never be able to finish this book in time but that's okay.

Are you participating in this readathon? What are you planning to read in December?

As always please leave some recommendations on what I should read next!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books on My Winter 2018/2019 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme  which was previously hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader GirlEach week bloggers post their top ten on a previously suggested topic. This week's topic is Ten Books on my winter TBR.

Since I don't have that much time to read in combination with my teaching job, I fear I will not be able to read all of these but I will be happy to have read half of them.

1. The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy #1) by Katherine Arden

I've heard nothing but great things and I'm so excited to read this one!

2. The Mad Ship (Liveship Traders #2) by Robin Hobb

I haven't read any Robin Hobb yet this year and I hoping I can still read it before the end of 2018. Not too optimistic, though.

3. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Another book I hope to read before the end of the year. We'll see how it goes.

4. Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor #1) by Mark Lawrence

Very excited to read this!

5. Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer #2) by Laini Taylor

Loved Strange the Dreamer, so I both happy and nervous to read the sequel.

6. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

7. Bloody Rose (The Band #2) by Nicholas Eames

Kings of the Wyld was one of my favourite fantasy books this year.

8. All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries #1) by Martha Wells

I might not be able to wait until winter to read this :)

9. Lethal White (Cormoran Strike #4) by Robert Galbraith

10. A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

I have an e-arc of this book but I just have too much trouble reading a pdf-file, so I'll purchase the book when it's released and I will read and review it then.

What are you planning to read this winter?

As always please leave some recommendations on what I should read or watch next!

Life

Not much to report this week, except for having to correct a ton of exams.
Tomorrow, I still have to teach my Spanish evening class and I have decided to make it Christmas themed. We'll have a small party as well.

My grandmother hasn't been doing well and sometimes thinks we are plotting against her. Only my brother and I can calm her, which is difficult for her sister who lives with her and my father. It's also quite scary to see her so angry and hearing her say impossible things about being kidnapped or not being told they moved (which they didn't). We are never able to talk her out of it but she does calm down if my brother and I help out. This has only started last week and quite suddenly which makes it difficult to deal with.

Blog and books

Didn't have much time this week but I did read quite a bit in The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy. I hope my slump is over, but I don't want to be too optimistic.

Movies and TV Shows

I finished My Love From the Star and really enjoyed it! Not sure what to watch next, though.

Life

Exams have started at my school and to be honest, it's the first time I've been excited about that! Now that I just have to correct them (and that is a huge task) I don't have to be at school so often and I'm not super exhausted anymore!

We finally brought our Christmas stuff down and decorated our tree! I love Christmas! We also went to Ghent today and I loved going through all the Christmas stalls. I've really enjoyed today!

Blog and books

Currently reading and enjoying To All the Boys I've Loved Before! I really liked the movie as well. I was hoping to watch Dumplin' this weekend but for some unknown reason, it's not available on Netflix in Belgium. I can't tell you how frustrating that is!

Looking forward to read more this month!

Movies and TV Shows

I started watching My Love from the Star and it's fantastic! One of my favourite kdramas at the moment! I also watched Plan Coeur on Netflix, 8 episodes of about 30 minutes, exactly what I needed! Really hope there will be a second season because I dislike open endings.

Life

I've been stressed out for days because I have two meetings next week which means I will have to stay at school for two long extra afternoons and since I literally never have enough time to sleep on Tuesday due to my teaching schedule, the fact that I have to stay the entire day is stressing me out terribly.

Blog and books

I have good news! I finally read something this week! Which means I read one book in November after all and I have already read two books in December! I hope this means that my reading slump is gone!

I also posted a Stacking the Shelves post yesterday!

Movies and TV Shows

I finished watching Hyde, Jekyll and I, I liked it but the last couple of episodes didn't add much too the story and could have been wrapped up in less than an hour.

I also started watching Rooftop Prince, which is fun.

I also watched The Silence of the Lambs again with my father. I really love that film!

Stacking the Shelves: November 2018 Book Haul

Stacking the Shelves is a meme co-hosted by Reading Reality and Tynga's Reviews (the image above belongs to these blogs too). Each week bloggers share the books they got.

As you know, I got a in massive reading slump and I didn't read much in November. I did order some books though :)

1. Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal

I heard good things, excited to read it but hate the fact that the Reese's Book Club sign is not a sticker and will permanently stay on the cover.

2. To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf

3. Tales From Earthsea (Earthsea Cycle #5) by Ursula K. Le Guin

I haven't read anything by this author before but really want to. I'm not sure if I can start with this book. Which book should I start with?

4. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

I love the movie and have been wanting to read the book for years!

Which books did you recently get? Have you read any of the books mentioned above or are you planning to? Leave your thoughts down below!

Life

As always, last week was exhausting. I came home on Friday, watched some kdrama after dinner, went to bed and slept for more than twelve hours and I still feel tired at the end of the weekend. I seriously need the weekend to last at least one day longer :)

Blog and books

Again, I haven't read anything this week :(

I promise to reply to all your comments in December (when I should have more time). I keep track of every comment I still need to reply to, so it will happen one day!

Movies and TV Shows

I started and finished watching Master's Sun, which was a fantastic TV show! Can't recommend it enough if you like ghost stories!

I also started Hyde, Jekyll and I.  I'm really enjoying it. Actually these kdramas are what got me through the week in one piece.

Life

Another exhausting week has passed, to be honest, the only things I do when I get home are preparing my lessons and going to sleep. I feel so bad about that but I don't have any time left for myself, not even during the weekend. I'm so tired all the time!

Blog and books

The horrible slump is still going strong, so I still haven't read anything this week :(

I did manage to post my October Book Haul in my Stacking the Shelves post yesterday!

Movies and TV Shows

I finished watching Don't Dare to Dream or Jealousy Incarnate on my commute to and from work, it was okay. No idea what to watch next. Any recommendations?

Stacking the Shelves: October 2018 Book Haul

Stacking the Shelves is a meme co-hosted by Reading Reality and Tynga's Reviews (the image above belongs to these blogs too). Each week bloggers share the books they got.

Since I haven't read anything at all so far in the month of November, it's safe to say I'm still in a massive reading slump. October was a little bit better which is why I do have some books to share in my October book haul!

1. Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer #2) by Laini Taylor

Strange the Dreamer was one of my favourite books last year and I can't wait to read what happens next!

2. In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl's Journey to Freedom by Yeonmi Park

I have been wanting to read this book since it came out. I requested it in my local library but it was rejected because it didn't fit into the collection... I believe this will be a difficult read but I'm so there for that.

3. Wildcard (Warcross #2) by Marie Lu

Warcross was another one of my favourite reads last year and I really want to read it soon!

4. Lethal White (Cormoran Strike #4) by Robert Galbraith

I read the first three books this year and really want to read this one as well in the same year.

5. The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Montague Siblings #2) by Mackenzi Lee

Same as with Warcross and Strange the Dreamer, I loved the first book and this was one of my most anticipated releases. It feels awful that just now that they have been released I have to be in such a slump.

6. Book Love by Debbie Tung

This was a fun and relatable read, perfect for book lovers! I got an e-arc from Netgalley and you can find my review here.

7. Loading Penguin Hugs: Heartwarming Comics from Chibird by Jacqueline Chen

Another Netgalley e-arc, already read and enjoyed it but still need to review it.

I also got the book The Indian Corps on the Western Front when I was in the Passchendaele museum because that was partly the subject of my thesis.

Which books did you recently get? Have you read any of the books mentioned above or are you planning to? Leave your thoughts down below!
